Gratifying sucess in Long Beach
I
spent about 8 months working with the Arts Council of Long Beach and the City's
Economic Development and Cultural Affairs Bureau to update a cultural plan WolfBrown
developed some years back. I finished my work last June and folks in the city
have taken the updated plan framework and run with it!
Earlier
in March, City Council voted unanimously to pass 5 arts-supportive
initiatives that grew out of that process. The initiatives support local
artists through business tax relief, allow for non-permitted music shows and
street performances, and form a dedicated Council committee to brainstorm
funding sources for the arts. Congratulations to everyone, especially the Arts
Council for Long Beach and Craig Watson! Here's another
account from an active local blogger.
